NEW HYBRID LEARNING MODEL!

In California, unlicensed dental assistants or dental office personnel whose employment tasks are deemed to be consistent with the activities of an unlicensed dental assistant shall complete, within one (1) year of hire or assignment, three (3) certification courses:

• an 8-hour, Board-approved certification course in infection control, consisting of didactic instruction and supervised laboratory competencies, and
• a 2-hour course in Dental Practice Act (DPA) for the unlicensed dental assistant, didactic learning only, and
• a certification course in basic life support (BLS) consistent with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross guidelines.

Upon successful registration here on-line, and within 10 – 14 days of the start of the on-campus lab instruction, the participant will be emailed a link to enter into the Learning Management System (LMS) and begin listening to our instructors present the lecture content.  At the conclusion of the power point presentation, the student will participate in an on-line assessment test based on the materials presented with the lecture.  A certificate of completion will be issued if the assessment is successfully completed – all students shall bring certificates to campus in order to gain entry into the lab section of the course and ultimately to receive verified certification of course completion.

Course Requirements:

1. Current BLS – Basic Life Support Certification: must be Healthcare Provider course from approved Heart Association or Red Cross provider; a copy of the current card must accompany student upon arrival on campus to complete course
2. Participants shall bring their own PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for use during lab and simulated lab instruction on campus; PPE must include the following items:
   • One (1) disposable isolation gowns or knee-length disposable lab jacket; long sleeved, cuffed, snap front or tie-back (no reusable, washable jackets or gowns allowed)
   • Three (3) pairs of medical examination gloves in appropriate size
   • One (1) disposable face mask (cone or earloop)

In the event participant does not bring their own PPE, a materials kit will be required to purchase for $10.

eMail confirmations will be sent out 10 – 14 days prior to the course with necessary information regarding the online learning aspect of the course what must be completed prior to attending course on-site, location information, reminders regarding PPE and other pertinent data.  Follow-up confirmation calls will require a returned call confirming attendance.
