This course is designed to provide Board-approved instruction and certification in the application of Pit & Fissure Sealants for those seeking licensure as a Registered Dental Assistant or to meet licensure renewal requirements for new RDA’s. Only a RDA can perform sealants, however, certification must be completed either prior to obtaining a licensure or within the first renewal period in which continuing education credit is required.

This two-day certification course provides all required didactic, lab, and clinical instruction required including oral anatomy review, instrumentation and oral hygiene instruction, identification of materials and proper placement techniques.

All unlicensed dental assistants attending the course and preparing to take the State Board examinations must have completed an 8-hour Infection Control certification course, Dental Practice Act, Coronal Polishing certification and CPR* prior to enrollment in the sealant certification course. Please bring copies of the following: 1. certificate of completion for the 8-hour infection control certification course 2. certificate of completion for the 2-hour Dental Practice Act 3. current CPR* card (front and back, BLS, Healthcare Provider course only) and 4. certificate of completion for Coronal Polish certification.

If you are a licensed RDA in California, you are required to bring copies of your current, active and signed California RDA license and current CPR* card (front and back).  Licensed RDA’s will receive 12 units of continuing education (CE) upon successful completion of the course.

*Current BLS Certification (Healthcare Provider course only) – Please bring a copy of your certification card with you on the day of the course. This copy is needed before a Certification of Completion can be issued.

Students will not be required to bring patients to the course and training facility; instead student’s will be required to complete patient based sealant competencies in their respective dental practices.  Further information regarding clinical requirements will be addressed in the course.
