The FADE / SDDS Foundation Collaborate to Support CSUS Pre-Doc’s
Our Foundation is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the Sacramento District Dental Society to assist in certification of the Cal State Sacramento Pre-Dental Program students for Infection Control and Dental Practice Act.
Approximately ten years ago, the SDDS Board helped develop a one-unit college course to allow students enrolled in the CSUS pre-dental program to circulate through dental offices for about ten weeks. The goal – – to help introduce pre-dental students to the role of the dental professional in the dental office. Students of the program are allowed to perform some of the most basic skills in the office while observing dental procedures, front desk activities and clinical activities by allied dental professionals.
Our Foundation saw an opportunity to ensure each observing student seek certification in IC/DPA and an offer to complete BLS certification in order for the student to actively participate, legally, in the activities of asepsis, patient treatment processing and sterilization techniques – in addition, to provide early education in the basic fundamentals of the Dental Practice Act and scope of practice.
In coordination with the SDDS Foundation, the FADE has donated 1/3 of the certification course tuition to the students and the same has been donated by the SDDS Foundation – through this level of cooperation, the two Foundations will have helped CSUS pre-dental students start their dental careers off correctly, ensuring they understand the requirements of our profession BEFORE functions are performed.
